Engine died- crank shaft fault

so yours is past its 3year warranty.. as for any extended or even third party warranty ... they are not really worth the money .. as sadly you have found out and mileage wise it is close to your 100,000 miles

why do i think it is a 3yr warranty by the manufacturer.. and you had 2yr extended warranty by a third party .. there by giving you 5yrs.. if so then the warranty claim is against the third party warranty provider and not LR directly...

I do have a 2 year warranty with warrantywise. These will not accept any liability without 1. The sump being removed for inspection at £1200 cost (which may just leave me £1200 further out of pocket) or 2. Have the engine stripped for inspection at a cost of £1600 which again may just leave me £1600 further out of pocket

if the extended third party warranty is sold to you at the dealers by the dealer at the time of purchasing the vehicle then i would argue that you were in effect buying what you thought was a LR warranty ... albiet not a LR one but a recommended ..and as far as you are concerned as good as a main dealer warranty just an extension of the original.. and if that is so.... you are being sold a product of no value ..but more importantly ..falsely ... and either the main dealer is misleading you ... irrespective of the small print ...or is conning you in to believing the warranty covers what you expect ... as for the sump having to come off to confirm the fault ...what is the main dealer saying is wrong with the engine?? and why can not the warranty company except what the main dealer is saying without having to remove the sump.. or stripping the engine..

I didnt purchase the car directly through the JLR dealer. I made the purchase through buyacar.co.uk who also sold me the warranty. The warranty is platinum plus from warranty wise which supposedly covers items which even fail on an MOT. The main dealer are just saying that the engine is seized and their protocol is to replace the engine and not investigate. My suspicions are that they wont investigate because it would show they would be liable!

oh dear then i am afraid it is down to you....find a garage who is willing to remove the engine... and how much too do so ... contact the company in malton and ask them if they are willing to rebuild it and a guide price .. it will only be a guide .... and yet if they have come across this problem before they can at least come close...then ask the warranty company if they will except the report from Park engineering in Malton as to the fault and see where you go from there.... leave the main dealers alone now you will not get any where..and their rates well exceed the local garage rates

Whilst not strictly on topic.
A friend has an Evoque, not entirely sure which engine but I think it is a mild hybrid 4 cylinder petrol.
Oil change interval 58,000 miles, service interval, 2 years.
Is it any wonder they go bang?
I was at Gaydon recently and looking at various cutaway JLR engines through the years. The ingenium engines look more like pieces of jewellery than something intended to propel a vehicle.

To clarify, is the "platinum" warranty still in place? If so i would start with the fine print on that. The garage policy on investigation vs engine change is their business and irrelevant as the policy that will setting this is the one in the warranty docs. Make a warranty claim and ask them to nominate a garage.

Hi Rob,

Yes the platinum warranty is still in place until June this year. They will not nominate a garage they have basically said that its my issue to find one. This is harder than it seems as nobody wants to undertake the work including specialists. They did forward my details to a 3rd party repairer eventually who then advised they would be unable to help and i needed to get the car to a main dealer!

I would not let the warranty provider off the hook too easily. It could be worth engaging a solicitor to act as your claims handler/agent. I had an accident in a classic car with agreed value insurance. No one wanted to repair it and the whole thing dragged on for months. I didn't argue with the insurer, I went back to the insurance broker and looked at the their role. They wanted to confine that to selling the policy and walking away but actually they have to handle claims too, not just pass them on. So I made formal complaints to the broker and requested they appoint a claims handler or I would at their expense. That got it all moving.
In your case I would contact the warranty provider (not the underwriter for the warranty) and ask for a claims handler with the threat that if they cannot provide one you will appoint your solicitor at their expense. In my case they never did find a garage, they simply gave up, gave me the full write off value of the car and the car  . In your case they may make you an offer of say £15,000 and tell you to go away. Haggle but its not a bad outcome.
