Engine died- crank shaft fault

Car manufacturers are no longer interested in building a product that will still be running around in 10-20 years time, it just has to make it through the warranty period without too many failures.
This is why nothing is tested before anymore. No need, just keep it running for the warranty.
Having recently gone back to a series that's 50 years old I feel it will be one of the last vehicles running on this planet...

So long as you don't fit electronic ignition.
Remember seeing a programme about the effects of an electromagnetic pulse. Elderly vehicles with points and non electronic ignition, or mechanical diesel, should continue to function. Those with electronic controls for injection or ignition will be as dead as a dodo.
Many years ago a Russian pilot defected with a then state of the art fighter. How the NATO chappies laughed when they saw that it was equipped with a valve radio. Then they realised.

Dear All
As mentioned earlier I am starting a legal action against JLR.
i have spoken today to an expert lawyer in consumer laws and he confirmed we can use a Group Litigation Order (GLO) to sue JLR. To constitute this GLO we need several claimants and the more the merrier so all disappointed customers who have the same problem of crankshaft defect are welcome to join. Do not worry about financing the claim as initially just a small contribution will be requested to start the action but there are other ways to finance the claim such as a CFA whereby our lawyers will accept not to charge us or eventually a small amount and they will get paid on the damages allocated to us so each one of us would have to pay them a small fee.
I will in this respect start collecting contact details of the claimants. If you are happy with this and are willing to claim please send me a PM. @ moderators is it ok if I create a specific thread?
Thanks everyone

Doesnt affect me directly, but good luck with this. I assume you are also posting on various other LR and 4x4 forums and social media..? I doubt you will have any shortage of claimants!

I am still identifying forums so if you know any other forums please feel free to tell me and I will also try to mobilize people. And thanks for your support Mikeau

HELP / ADVICE NEEDED
We have a Landrover Range Rover Sport 2015 model that has had complete engine failure which we have now learned is down to a crankshaft design problem noted with these models although it has never been recalled by Landrover. Stratstone Landrover have quoted us £19k to replace the engine and all components however given the nature of the problem we thought Landrover would cover the majority of the cost, they have offered us a 10% contribution. We would like to hear from anyone else that this has happened to or anyone that can offer any advice of what we can do, the car was bought at 2 years old and we have owned it for approximately 2 years but there is no warranty on the car now, never the less a car of this cost should not have complete engine failure after just 4 years of being manufactured. Thank you
I have this problem now with my 2014 range rover sport hse dynamic 3.0 v6 i have a platinum warranty with rac for full value of vehicle since purchase ive covered less than 2500 miles full service history and warranty said no to paying for this due to it having started to wear before warranty was taken the bill is around £16000 and i cant afford to pay this any help advise would be appreciated

I had 2015 rrsport engine seize on me july this year, that I have had since new, I used the memo from manufacturers that is on the forum to argue it was a manufacturing fault and not wear and tear, and under sale of goods act poor quality and not fit for purpose, they put a new engine in foc, dont give up seek legal advice using that memo that admits its a fault.
Can you send memo to me please as im stuck in same situation please

I have the same issue on RRS 2012, engine seized and will not restart, we have engineers looking at the issue but it does look like failed crankshaft, anyone else having issue may find this useful I found online, https://www.check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk/recall-type/vehicle/make/LAND ROVER/model/RANGE ROVER SPORT/year/2012/recalls
Same issue with ours been in the garage over 3wks just had a call saying LR will pay 20% good will.. called garage plus customer service complaining as only has 27000 mile and full service awaiting a call back 🤦‍♂️🤦

So they're offering 20% off an over inflated price, so in reality they're still making money out of fixing their issue... sounds about right

I own a discovery TD4 HSE. 8 yr, less than 60k on clock. Fully serviced, Landrover approved, MOT pass in March. Returning from Aberdeen engine completely shut down on duel carriageway. No warning lights nothing. Once recovered garage say diagnostic test found that the crank shaft had seized. Now requires a brand new engine! Mechanic says it’s a component fault. Landrover not willing to contribute to fixing this. Will deliver nothing to us for repair. So disappointed as have had Freelanders/discovery’s for over 20 years. Anyone else heard /experience of this problem ??
Welcome to the club!!!!

My RRS has been in the garage for 3 weeks and they have just confirmed its a cracked crankshaft, interesting as they have also offered 20% towards the repair costs which will probably be 10K, do you have any details on who is dealing with your complaint as I will take this further.

Yer I complained every day with ombudsman and solicitors I went back to the original garage where I purchased the car they started to look into it,didnt getback so I tracked down the group director on LinkedIn and sent him my complaint who passed it back down to head of aftersales who between them and JLR customer care offered 60% car now getting repaired not back yet....

Thanks for the update, I am dealing with RR customer repair and will update once I have a decision, 60% is still pretty poor considering you have 27k on the clock !
