I,m shocked on how long its been since i have been on this thread .. i dont want Berty too think i,m egnoring him lol ..
. well as you all know Berty is promiseingly getting his engine sorted and its all down to you ;) ... When i go out too the shed_a-van i,m on pause mode as i don,t know what too do!!!! :oopsy:.. so any sugestions please ???;) .. should i carry on taking the engine apart , like the rad off , dismantle the carb ect .... I feel like i need too continue too do things if you know what i mean .:). a massive massive thankyou too each and everyone of you for guiding me on this amazing journey .and helping tooget my Berty on the road again ,;) you are all one big massive part in my life , so i,m here for good and so is Berty .. . I have the funeral tomorrow for little star so just want too keep busy and acomplish what i can .. youve made me so flippin proud of myself , and so proud too be a member of this amazing landrover loving goodness .... so take care all of you

Well, the engine is coming out at some point, so access to it will help a lot. I'd be preping by undoing the stuff that is connected to it, like coolant hoses, throttle cable, fuel lines, etc. Get the front panel off and the rad out of the way. Maybe the front wings can come off for better access. There's a lot for you to do.
And take loads of photos before and when you do it from every angle you can think of.
They will be valuable aids to the memory before and when everything is being put back in place.

Absolutely. And as already said before, bag up and label everything so that you know what it is and where it came from. This is most important as you'll get in a right mess and won't remember where anything is when you need it, or where things go when you pick them up later.

Oh, and use the workshop manual I sent you for the instructions on how to take things apart.
 
Just a thought Jo, Did @freqmikey say that Berty may need to be moved for better access/working position? Might be worth checking with him while moving Berty is relitively straight forward. Yes to lots of photo's and bag and name everything you remove. I laid all my named bags of bits into a tray so it was easier to see what I had and easier to find parts.

:) I have several ideas on how to do the mechanicals on Berty but the one that seems most do-able, logistically and within a sensible timescale involves leaving Berty in Jo's garden ;) There's a loose outline of 'how to' ...
I'll create another thread soons't for the 'who with/when' and the 'what to use' part of things :cool:

That would seem the most straightforward and just move the bit that needs work . Far simpler than trying to load and transport a vehicle.

Brakes can be done in situ .

I wonder if @Guitar Mick was thinking about how easy it will be to move Berty around the garden once the front panel is off and the wings all floppy .
 
The ideal has to be, lift engine out, transport to a workshop somewhere, and rebuild with replacement block, etc. Berty stays where it is and Jo gets on with work to brakes, etc. In fact, Jo really ought to be doing the engine work with lots of hands on assistance and instruction, but finding a suitable location and facility to enable that are perhaps not so realistic. To my mind, this all came about because watching a determined struggle to fix an engine problem with few tools and even less knowledge, captured our collective desire to help out. Trying to provide that help virtually eventually proved to be too great a challenge and so we are now where we are. However, I don't think we should be taking over the job, but rather providing the maximum assistance feasible so that in the end, it is still Jo's achievement.
